Here is a brief overview of what is included in an AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Cardiac course.
First the class begins with the PALS Science review followed by 1 and 2 rescuer infant and child CPR, resuscitation team concept, coping with death, pediatric assessment, practice of the cardiac, respiratory, and shock core cases, core case testing, and written exam.
Students will be given ample time to practice before final testing occurs. The instructors at CPR Tampa are trained in providing a friendly and stress-free classroom.
We believe a relaxed environment setting contributes to optimal learning. Prior to taking the class, you will be required to take a self assessment test. Any problems you are having can then be addressed by the instructor on the day of class.
Our instructors love teaching and love helping students be successful.

Frequently Asked Questions for PALS Renew Class
1. What is a PALS Renewal Class?
The PALS Renewal Class (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) is a refresher course designed for healthcare professionals who already hold a valid PALS certification and need to renew it before it expires. The class reviews and updates your skills in recognizing and managing pediatric emergencies, cardiac arrest, and respiratory distress, following the latest American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines.
2. How often do I need to renew my PALS certification?
According to the AHA, PALS certification is valid for two years. You must complete a PALS Renewal Class before your current card expires to maintain active certification and stay compliant with hospital and employer requirements.
3. What will I learn in the PALS Renewal course?
During the renewal class, you’ll review and practice:
- Pediatric assessment and recognition of life-threatening conditions
- Effective team dynamics during resuscitation
- Airway management, rescue breathing, and advanced interventions
- CPR and AED use for infants and children
- Rhythm recognition and pharmacology for pediatric patients
- Case-based scenarios to reinforce real-world application
4. How long does the PALS Renewal Class take in Tampa?
The PALS Renewal Class typically lasts approximately 6–8 hours, depending on class size and your level of experience. CPR Tampa’s instructors ensure a hands-on, stress-free learning environment where students can refresh their knowledge confidently.
5. Do I need to bring anything to class?
Yes. Please bring:
- A current (unexpired) PALS certification card
- A photo ID
- Your PALS Provider Manual (AHA 2020 edition)
If you don’t have the manual, you can purchase one through CPR Tampa before your class.
6. What if my PALS card is expired?
If your certification has expired, you’ll need to take the PALS Initial Class instead of the renewal course. The initial course covers the same skills but in greater depth for those who need a full re-certification.
7. Is the PALS Renewal Class through the American Heart Association (AHA)?
Yes. CPR Tampa is an official American Heart Association Training Site, and all PALS certifications are AHA-approved and nationally recognized. You’ll receive your AHA PALS Provider eCard the same day upon successful completion of the course.
